My mind has been working overtime and my heart heavy this weekend. I have been in the midst of a difficult situation which is working to some resolution. Today, this quote came to mind as I pondered what my involvement should be. It is from Oscar Schindler who was a German, member of the Nazi party and opportunistic businessman who saved over 1000 Jews during WWII. Remember the movie Schindler's List?
Whoever saves one life saves the world entire. ~Oscar Schindler
How beautiful is that? We can not stand aside and ignore something that is wrong just because we are too uncomfortable, dont have the time, it doesn't directly effect us, etc. As my friend Maryanne says, "We are the instruments. God is the musician." Sometimes that means we need to listen closely to see what song he wants us to play.
Along the same line, there was an article in our local paper this week about a movie called No. 4 Street of Our Lady. This documentary, done by some folks at Penn State University, tells the remarkable, yet little-known, story of Francisca Halamajowa, a Polish-Catholic woman who rescued 16 of her Jewish neighbors during the Holocaust, while cleverly passing herself off as a Nazi sympathizer. You can read more about it at: http://streetofourlady.org/
All of this helps me keep in perspective that there is good in the world. We need to be a part of that good.
