Are we molding Cecilia into a brat?

In the past few days I have started to worry that we are molding Cecilia into one of those kids where we are no longer invited to events because, "they will probably bring that Cecilia with them." If there is one thing I have never been able to tolerate, it is children who get away with everything because they are cute. I have, in fact, distanced myself from people whose children I found for the lack of a better word... bratty. It is sort of like having bad breath. People are too polite to say anything about it but avoid being around you. It is also like poop. Everyone can smell it but the person who dealt it. Like those analogies???

Since Cecilia's arrival, we have dedicated our every moment to her. We watch her, smile and marvel at her every accomplishment. It is important to me that she develop a positive sense of self but where is the line drawn between that and being egocentric? Where is the line drawn between allowing her to explore her environment and learn vs. allowing her to do whatever she wants and being the person in control. My rule, to date, has been to allow her to do almost anything that does not hurt herself, others or destroy something. Maybe I need to rethink that. Hmmm!
