Our boat trip...
(Scott, Benito (Lazaro and Tello's brother), Cecilia, Humberto, Linett (Humberto's daughter), Rigoberto (Humberto's brother) and Victorica (Humberto's wife)

90+ degrees, 3 beers, Birkenstock clad and no water, I am convinced to come see a cavern that is "just right up there." That would be a "Mexican" not American just right up there. 30 minutes of rock climbing, dehydration, slip and scrape and a snake killing, I decided to head back. You will notice that no one answers my questions about whether or not the snake is poisonous. Ugh! Another 30 minutes the rest of the group returned. Well... they couldn't find it after all.
Snakes and stones may break my bones... that or scare the shit out of me
We visited the island that our Cecilio comes from, called Pueblo Viejo which is full of legends. It contains a church that was built by a young boy in one night along with divine intervention. It was very interesting. Only about 10 families still live on the island and we were reportedly the first white people ever.

Novios neuvos...
(Javier (Humberto's brother) and his son Xavier with Cecilia. I could have eaten Xavier alive... he was way too cute!)

We returned to Huamuchil, feasted on fresh Flagfish, Abalone, Crab and Shrimp and then headed to a nearby town, San Dionisio, for the stations of the cross. Cecilia was a real bear and I was trying to be in the moment. She slapped Victorica as she was annointing her with a flower and asking God to bless her. The church there is known for answering prayers and healing people. Due to her performance, I hope God will still bless Cecilia.

We planned to stay another night in Huamuchil but Tello called to say we were headed to a wedding the next morning and we needed to leave at 6am. We were whisked away in the middle of the night to Juchitan.
Be on the lookout for the next installment of "Oaxaca... of the beaten path." Back off Gail!
